Get your frying pan out in time for Pancake Day, which takes place this year on the 9th February. Not only is this the perfect opportunity for you to show off your pancake making skills, but you can also choose animal-friendly ingredients.

This year, why not choose cage-free eggs and support more humane practices for egg-laying hens. Switching to free range, organic or even egg-free will help towards creating a more animal-friendly recipe.

Maddie’s Pancakes

  • 150g plain flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 tablespoons caster sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 300ml water
  • 1 tablespoon oil

The flour, salt and baking powder all need to be sifted into a large bowl. In a separate smaller bowl mix both the oil and water together. Pour this into the centre of the larger bowl and gradually mix well all the ingredients together.

Gently and safely heat up a frying pan then drop large spoonfuls onto the griddle and cook until browned, then flip and do the same.

When cooked, why not serve them with your favourite topping.
